Hambright Garden News

The Hambright Garden Group has run 3 fundraising events for the garden in the last 2 months:  the Sweetheart Dance, Taekwondo Night, and Spring Bingo.  The funds from these events have raied over $8,000 specifically for garden education!

The money raised will be used to guarantee every Hambright classroom of students at least 3 garden lessons led by The Edible Classroom instructors in 2024!  The Edible Classroom is a community partner who provides rich, high-interest, hands-on engaging, standards-aligned lessons for all students K-6 in our building.  Thanks to your generous donations and support over the past year. The Hambright Garden benefits all Hambright students in all grade levels!

In addition to garden lessons, you will see some tangible improvements to the garden area.  We plan to construct a trellis for vine vegetables over the sidewalk, an outdoor bulletin board, a composting bin, and an asparagus plot.

While $8,000 is a big number, the costs for the garden are around $10,000 annually.  So please continue to refer businesses in the Hambright area who might be interested in sponsoring the garden.  Click here to complete a form reaching out to us.

Finally, the families, teachers, and staff of Hambright are a special group of people!  None of this would be possible without the support and generosity of the greater Hambright community.  Special shoutout to both Amy Bittenbender and Lauren Weaver for all their energy, efforts, and hard work to make the three fundraisers a big success!  THANK YOU to all who make Garden Education a priority and a reality for Hambright students!

SIGN UP NOW FOR GARDEN CAMP AT OUR HAMBRIGHT GARDEN

Garden Camp registrations are open on our website: "Water Works! Come harvest water AND veggies in the garden!"

Hambright July 29-August 2 9am-noon

Central Manor June 24-28 9am-noon

If your families can't make it for the week in your garden, they are welcome to register for the week at neighboring Central Manor's garden. Both weeks are open to all Penn Manor residents.

Here's a glimpse of the fun we'll be having at this year's "Water Works!" Garden Camp:

Campers will enhance hard and soft STEM skills through water-based projects. They'll design and build a water-harvesting system that will collect rainwater off the garden’s shed roof and be used to water their plants. They'll also repurpose items to make a portable water wall to water the garden beds. With the school garden as the backdrop for all our activities, campers will learn about caring for the garden as they water, tend, and harvest ingredients to prepare fresh snacks every day at camp. The week will wrap up with a garden celebration! Families can join us in the garden to taste camper prepared snacks, hear from industry leaders about career connections and enjoy the greenspace together. We hope to see you in the garden!

START NEXT SCHOOL YEAR OFF WITH A BANG!

IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO ALL PARENTS

In an effort to provide a safe and secure educational setting for our students, all Penn Manor school buildings will begin to ask guests to provide identification when entering buildings for meetings or to pick up a student.

We appreciate your flexibility and support with this process.

Morning Drop-off Reminder

As always please be mindful of your surroundings as students and staff can be crossing at any time.
