Regular Attendance is Linked to Your Child’s Success in School

One important way you can help your child be successful in school is to help get them to school on time each day.  When your child misses a day of school, he or she can make up the assignments, but not what is most important:  the actual lesson, the discussion about what was learned, the questions that the other students asked and the answers provided by the teacher.  Being late for school can have a big impact on your child’s learning too.  A student who is 20 minutes late every day will miss more than 30 hours of instruction in a year!

Tips on Improving Your Child’s Attendance

  • Enforce a regular bedtime for your child.
  • Talk with your child about the importance of attending school regularly.
  • Set up a regular homework time so your child can complete his or her work and be ready and organized for the next day.
  • Make sure your child stays healthy by eating nutritious food and getting enough sleep.
